Carrey’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 return is exciting because it’s a career first, but it’s also a big deal for other reasons.

For one, Carrey does a brilliant job bringing the villain to life, giving Eggman a hilariously sinister persona. While it’s easy for villains to get boring after multiple movies, Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik doesn’t have that problem. He’s unpredictable and a never-ending nuisance for Sonic, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 just wouldn’t feel the same without him. His antics with Knuckles prove he can share the spotlight, so he won’t draw attention away from Shadow’s debut either.
