LOS ANGELES, CA — Lucasfilm is thrilled to announce the development of a highly anticipated standalone film centered around one of the most iconic characters in the Star Wars universe: Mace Windu. Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his beloved role as the formidable Jedi Master.
A New Chapter in the Star Wars Saga
Set during the height of the Clone Wars, Mace Windu will explore the complexities of the Jedi Order and the moral dilemmas he faced during a tumultuous time in the galaxy. This thrilling narrative will reportedly be told alongside a dual storyline opening with a present day Mace Windu during Order 66 as he lays defeated on a vacant Coruscant rooftop, his mind wandering in and out of consciousness, confronting his demons as he journeys towards his possible transformation into the Force. The film promises to delve into Windu’s character showcasing his wisdom, combat prowess, and unyielding commitment to justice—and finally answer the age old question: Does Mace live?
Behind the Scenes
The film will be directed by Christopher Nolan, known for his visionary storytelling, ability to create immersive worlds, and incorporation of elements of time. Together with Nolan, the original screenplay will be co-written by Adrian Lynn, who aims to bring new depth to the character through a darker, more psychological lens while honoring the legacy of the legendary character.
Samuel L. Jackson Returns
“I’m excited to step back into the robes of Mace Windu,” said Jackson. “This character has always resonated with me, and I can’t wait to share his journey with fans old and new.”
Release Date and Future Updates
While a release date has yet to be announced, the studio is eyeing a December 2026 premier.
